HSF Kramer has launched a mentoring scheme to support neurodivergent trainees and junior lawyers, pairing them with senior mentors from other professional services firms.

The programme sits alongside new "Neurodiversity Champions" and other initiatives as the firm expands its support.

HSF Kramer is rolling out a new mentoring programme aimed at supporting neurodivergent trainees and junior lawyers as they build their careers.

The scheme, created with provider Nurturing Neurodivergence, will initially be open to paralegals, trainees and associates in London and Brussels. Participants will be paired with senior mentors from other professional services firms for six months, with the option to continue beyond that. The programme is designed to create a safe space to share challenges and develop techniques for dealing with a range of workplace scenarios.

Neurodivergent is an umbrella term covering differences such as autism, ADHD and dyslexia, where people process information in ways that aren’t considered typical or normal, according to support group Neurodiversity in Law.

Additional support

Alongside the mentoring scheme, HSF Kramer is setting up a group of "Neurodiversity Champions" inside the firm. These are volunteers trained to act as a contact point for colleagues looking for guidance, from accessing a diagnosis to making use of the firm’s adjustments policy.

The latest moves add to a wider package of initiatives, including manager training on ADHD in the workplace, peer support groups and internships for autistic candidates to give them an introduction to life in a law firm.

Jeremy Walden, executive partner for UK & EMEA, said the aim was to create an environment where "different ways of thinking are not just accepted, but truly valued and celebrated."
