Milbank has hired three infrastructure partners from White & Case in London, along with senior associate Jonathan Toffolo, who joins as partner.

The move is the second major infrastructure team exit from White & Case in recent weeks, following a trio of partner departures to Paul Hastings.

Milbank has hired infrastructure partners Tim Sheddick, Tom Pound and Katie Hicks from White & Case in London, as the US firm continues to scale up its energy and infrastructure capabilities in Europe.

The trio - all former Shearman and Baker McKenzie lawyers - are joined by senior associate Jonathan Toffolo, who will step up to partner as part of the move.

Sheddick is well known for advising infrastructure funds and institutional investors on M&A across the sector, while Pound brings a broad corporate toolkit covering M&A, PE and equity capital markets.

Hicks is a finance lawyer and will add depth on the financing side, with a focus on acquisition and refinancing work on infrastructure deals. She has a Band 1 ranking from Chambers for infrastructure work.

Bigger picture

For Milbank, the hires mark an expansion of its global infrastructure offering as it builds on its already strong reputation for energy and project finance work.

Suhrud Mehta, co-head of Milbank’s global leveraged finance practice, said:

"We are thrilled to be welcoming the team to Milbank. They have developed an outstanding practice, and I have no doubt their strengths and expertise in the infrastructure sector and finance will have tremendous synergies with our market leading infrastructure and finance practices globally. We are excited to be rolling this initiative out for our clients."

The move is also a continuation of a wider trend among US firms leaning heavily into infrastructure, where long-term capital and deal activity have remained relatively strong compared to other areas of the market.

More infra exits at White & Case

For White & Case, it’s the second infrastructure team loss in a matter of weeks.

Last month, the firm lost three infrastructure partners to Paul Hastings - including London-based partner George Kazakov and Din Eshanov who are heading up Paul Hastings' new base in Abu Dhabi.

So that’s six infrastructure partner exits in the space of a month.
