Addleshaw Goddard has launched in the Netherlands by merging with Amsterdam law firm Florent.
The firm has opened several new offices across Europe and the Middle East since starting an expansion push in 2019.
Addleshaw Goddard has entered the Netherlands through a merger with Amsterdam-based law firm Florent, the latest chapter in its European expansion.
The corporate firm, which was founded in 2017, has 17 partners and 44 lawyers, and will become AG’s 22nd office worldwide.
AG called the move a “significant milestone in the firm’s ambitious AG2030 international growth strategy”, citing the country's position as an important location for international transactions, finance and disputes.
The merger is set to complete on 1 July, with Florent’s managing partners Chris Jager and Kees van de Meent continuing on as office heads.
Addleshaw’s expansion
Addleshaw Goddard has increased its EMEA footprint significantly in recent years since opening its first continental European office in Hamburg in 2019.
The London-headquartered firm has built a network spanning Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Ireland, Germany, France, Spain, Luxembourg and Poland, where it entered the market last year with an 80-lawyer team from Linklaters in Warsaw.
What they said
"Florent fills an important missing piece in our European platform. We have listened to demand from clients and colleagues across our international network for Dutch law capability for some time,” said AG managing partner Andrew Johnston.
“We were determined to find a team that shared our ambition, entrepreneurial approach and focus on quality. In Florent, we have found exactly that.”
