McDermott has hired financial regulation specialist Karen Butler from DLA Piper, adding depth to its transactional and regulatory offering in London following its recent merger with Schulte.
Butler advises banks, fund managers and corporates on UK and EU financial services regulation and implementation. She spent three years at DLA Piper, having previously been a partner at Reed Smith.
Regulatory expertise
Her practice covers a wide range of financial regulation, including FSMA, MiFID and AIFMD matters, as well as governance, compliance and capital requirements.
McDermott’s global head of transactions Harris Siskind said Butler’s experience "perfectly complements our existing strengths and further solidifies our position as a go-to firm for complex international transactions."
London managing partner Aymen Mahmoud added that her "collaborative approach and technical skill make her a fantastic addition to our growing London office."
Post-merger London
McDermott has been growing its London team since its merger with New York private capital powerhouse Schulte went live in August. In September, the firm added real estate finance specialist Owen Jones from Tristan Capital Partners, while last week it promoted two new London partners as part of a New York-focused promotions round.
Butler said she was excited to join the firm, saying "its clear commitment to growing a top-tier transactional and regulatory practice provide the ideal environment for me to serve my clients."
