McDermott has promoted 36 lawyers to partner, with New York accounting for more than a third of the new class and London seeing a small uptick.

The US firm made up 13 lawyers in New York and three in London: litigation lawyer Harry Denlegh-Maxwell, finance lawyer Giulia Venanzoni and private equity lawyer Zoe Woodhouse.

The round is significantly smaller than last year, when McDermott promoted 74 lawyers in its first partner class following the merger with New York private capital specialist Schulte, which went live in August that year.

The promotions take effect on 1 January.

New York focus

McDermott said this year’s class reflected continued investment in New York and its private capital platform, with promotions spanning private equity, investment funds and M&A.

Chairman Ira Coleman said: “Our success is built on people who challenge convention, embrace complexity, and help clients move forward with confidence. Across every practice and office, this class does exactly that.”

London remains an important part of the combined firm. McDermott currently has 46 partners in the capital, spread across two City offices following the merger.

The firm is planning a move to a new London HQ in Mayfair in 2028.
