Clyde & Co has launched a consultation affecting support staff as it looks to move roles to its Glasgow hub and Accenture-operated centre in Manila.
The move reflects a wider trend across City law, with firms increasingly centralising support functions and shifting work to lower-cost service centres.
Support staff at Clyde & Co could face redundancy under plans to reorganise the firm's support operations.
According to RollOnFriday, the firm has started a consultation affecting around 200 employees. The publication said the figure had not been verified by the firm.
In a statement, CEO Matthew Kelsall said Clyde & Co is "proposing to move certain services currently carried out by teams within legal support, purchase to pay and IT to our established shared services centres in Glasgow and Accenture’s service centre in Manila.”
He added that the move “builds on similar changes already implemented in the Americas, Middle East and APAC.”
“We recognise that these proposals will be unsettling for colleagues affected, and we are committed to supporting them throughout this process,” Kelsall said.
Clydes established a Manila business services delivery centre in partnership with Accenture last year to support its APAC business services operations. It also has a dedicated support hub in Glasgow.
Business services shake-up
Several firms have rethought their business support structures in recent years with a view to controlling costs - A&O Shearman, DWF, Clifford Chance, Baker McKenzie and BCLP have announced consultations or redundancies over the past year.
In March, Fieldfisher moved 90 of its back office roles from London, Manchester and Birmingham to Belfast, part of plans to centralise its core business support services in a single location.
