Eversheds Sutherland has added a 10-lawyer real estate and litigation team from Kropáček Legal in Prague.

The move comes as international firms step up their push into central and eastern Europe, with Fieldfisher and Addleshaws both making major plays in Poland earlier this year.

Eversheds Sutherland has strengthened its Czech presence with the addition of a 10-lawyer team from Prague-headquartered Kropáček Legal, a boutique focused on real estate and litigation work.

The deal brings 13 people in total, including one partner, nine associates and support staff. The group is led by founder Pavel Kropáček, who launched the firm in 2013 after a stint at Dvořák & Spol (which merged with Eversheds in 2018).

The firm says the combined team will form one of the largest and most comprehensive real estate benches in Prague. Eversheds currently has 32 lawyers in Prague, according to the firm's website.

Central Europe momentum

The tie-up lands as international firms turn up the dial on central and eastern Europe’s growing market for legal services.

Both Fieldfisher and Addleshaws have entered Poland this year, with Fieldfisher adding 32 lawyers across Warsaw and Krakow in May and AG making a splash at the start of the year with an 80-lawyer team from Linklaters in Warsaw.

What they said

Bořivoj Líbal, Czech managing partner, said: "When I joined Eversheds Sutherland three years ago, our ambition was clear: to grow the practice by attracting outstanding legal professionals who not only embody our commitment to excellence but also share our long-term vision.

"This consolidation with Pavel and his team is a powerful realisation of that ambition. It significantly enhances our capabilities and enables us to deliver even more comprehensive, strategic, and effective legal support to our clients across all key legal practice areas."
