Need to know

Harvey and Legora have both announced products called Intake, designed to help in-house legal teams manage incoming requests and automate routine work.

The two products were announced within 24 hours of each other, with Legora appearing to go first. The launches have attracted attention for their identical names and similar functionality.

Harvey and Legora have unveiled competing AI products with exactly the same name, in an unusual coincidence between two of legal tech's fastest-growing rivals.

Both are called Intake and both promise to help in-house legal teams manage incoming work using AI agents.

The two products were announced within 24 hours of each other, with Legora appearing to go first.

The similarities also extend beyond the branding, with both companies positioning their products as a new "front door" for corporate legal departments.

Spot the difference

Legora's Intake allows employees to submit legal requests through Slack, with an AI agent collecting missing information, organising the work and preparing initial drafts using the legal team's existing instructions and playbooks.

Harvey's version follows much the same idea. It captures incoming legal requests, directs them to the appropriate lawyer or AI agent and can perform initial legal work.

Both promise to reduce the administrative burden on in-house lawyers and help legal teams handle more work without adding headcount.

The coincidence has not gone unnoticed on LinkedIn, where one commenter joked: "Do you think they both asked Claude to write their product roadmaps?"

A crowded ‘front door’

The timing comes as both companies push further into the corporate legal market.

Harvey says it already works with more than 1,600 in-house legal teams, including five of the Fortune 10 companies.

Legora, meanwhile, revealed on Monday that in-house legal teams now account for around half its UK clients, with adoption growing more than three times as fast as among law firms this year.

Alex Fortescue-Webb, head of UK & Ireland at Legora, said: “A year ago the majority of our UK clients were law firms. Today around half are in-house teams, many of them in financial and professional services, and firms are growing with us at the same time.”
