McDermott has hired Lewis McDonald from HSF Kramer, where he co-led the firm’s global energy practice.

McDonald will join the firm in October and will focus on building McDermott’s European energy practice while integrating more closely with the firm’s US platform.

McDermott has poached HSF Kramer’s co-head of global energy practice Lewis McDonald, who will join the firm in October.

McDonald brings more than 25 years’ experience advising energy companies, sponsors and investors on deals across oil and gas, power and renewables.

His practice has focused on cross-border M&A, joint ventures and project development mandates across developed and emerging markets, acting for some of the world’s largest energy companies.

Fully integrated

McDonald also brings significant Asia-focused experience, having spent more than a decade based across Singapore, Seoul and Tokyo advising clients.

McDermott said the hire would strengthen its European energy offering and deepen integration with its US energy team in order to deliver “fully integrated support”.

Global transactions head Harris Siskind said: “Energy markets are becoming more complex and interconnected, and clients are looking for clear, commercial advice across the full spectrum of energy and infrastructure.”

London growth

London managing partner Aymen Mahmoud described McDonald as a “standout addition” to the firm’s London office at a pivotal moment for the energy sector.

Commenting on the move, McDonald said McDermott had the “scale, platform and ambition” to build a leading European energy practice.

The hire follows a series of partner moves in the energy and infrastructure market. Baker McKenzie hired McDermott energy and infrastructure partner Elisabeth Moseley in November, while Broadfield recently recruited Pillsbury’s Gavin Watson as its global head of energy and infrastructure.
